In the second round of the World Cup in Baku, two high-profile games featured the Sicilian Sveshnikov with 7.Nd5, leading to a very interesting double-edged position. Our main game of the week is Wei Yi-Supi, which for 18 moves followed a line from a game Caruana and Carlsen played during the World Championship in London 2018. In that match, all games ended in a draw. But Wei Yi could do better and scored a convincing victory.
In the other game, between Iskandarov and Gukesh, Black was more fortunate and convincingly outplayed his opponent to leapfrog Vishy Anand in the live ratings and become India's new number one!
Exercise: White has just sacrificed its knight. Can you see the idea what's the idea after both 33...Rd8 and the game continuation 33...Rf8?
Feel free to move the pieces on the live diagram!
