Robert Ris' Fast and Furious: A model game in the London

by Robert Ris
8/8/2025 – In his new Fast & Furious show, Robert Ris shows how Ukrainian GM Pavel Eljanov used an aggressive line of the London to score a fine victory. | Fast & Furious is available on-demand with a ChessBase Premium Account. You can register a Premium account here.

This video course offers you a complete, clear repertoire for Black against the moves 1.Nf3 and 1.c4. The recommended variations are easy to learn and not difficult to remember, but also pose White serious challenges.

Robert Ris: "This week I have a look at the game Eljanov-Van Hesselingen from the HZ Vlissingen Tournament. The Ukrainian top grandmaster used his favorite London System and opted for a modern treatment with an early h2-h4-h5.

The Dutch Youth Champion U18 had clearly no clue how to deal with White's aggressive play and found himself in a lost position right out of the opening. A true modelgame!

In this episode I'll explain some key ideas for White in this line and what would be a better way for Black to against it. "

Exercise: Black's position is strategically quite bad already. Can you see how White should proceed?

Feel free to move the pieces on the live diagram!
