1/5/2018 – The XLVII Rilton Cup in Stockholm (Sweden) was down to two leaders after eight rounds setting up a dramatic final round showdown. GMs Johan Salomon and Kirill Alekseenko held a half point lead over six GMs going into Friday. And rather than make a quick draw, they played a full game, until Salomon blundered an exchange and was forced to resign on the spot, leaving Alekseenko the sole winner. XLVII Rilton Cup
The 47th Rilton Cup takes place from December 27th, 2017 to January 5th, 2018 in Stockholm, Sweden. The format is a 9-round Swiss open with 20,000 Swedish Kroner (about €2,000) on offer for first place. The "Rilton" in the Rilton Cup was Dr. Tore Rilton, who wanted the tournament to provide an opportunity for young Swedish talents to challenge strong masters from elsewhere. This year the tournament includes 75 players with FIDE titles.
The time control is 90 minutes for 40 moves followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game plus 30 seconds per move starting from move 1.
