Beating an ultra-correct player
The main focus of the video is a masterpiece played by Vasyl Ivanchuk in the Chess Legends tournament. He employed a King’s Gambit against Peter Leko and succeeded in confusing this ultra-correct player. I have a particular interest in this game as the players follow a line that I covered on my recent King’s Gambit DVD.
I will also be looking at an instructive pawn endgame played by the same two players.
As ever, I will be setting a problem for you to solve before next week.

So we had a real clash of styles: the solid and correct Peter Leko, a classical player, someone who doesn’t gamble, against Vasyl Ivanchuk, someone who is very enterprising, prepared to play very unusual openings and used to wilder positions than his Hungarian opponent.
