The Masters section as the players wait for the round to start
In this seven round swiss, the tournament saw a five-way tie at the top with 5.5/7 points
where top seed German GM Arkadij Naiditsch took first place on tiebreak.
This was the second straight victory in Switzerland for the German as
he had won the Zurich Christmas Open just a week before

Third place was taken by GM Eduardo Iturrizaga (2654 FIDE) of Venezuela

scoring 4.5/7 to finish twelfth
Fourteen-year-old Dutch talent IM Jorden Van Foreest (2467) also scored 4.5/7
Swiss GM Yannick Pelletier (2588) scored 5.0/7 to finish eighth
German IM Felix Graf (2472) had a good tournament, finishing ninth with 5.0/7
Serbian GM Milos Pavlovic (2472) bounced back from a shaky start to finish fifth
Legendary GM Vlastimil Hort showed that age is not a factor and scored
a commendable 5.0/7 to finish tenth

In the amateurs section held alongside the Masters’ main event, the winner was Natal Vorotnikova
of Russia, beating out all other challengers
Solutions:
Dourerrassou - Naiditsch: 1...Qc8! attacking the pawn on h3 so 2.Kh2 Bf5! and after the queen moves 3.Qxc2 picks up the pawn.
Iturrizaga - Van Foreest: 1.Rb3+! Kxb3 2.Qb6+ Ka3 3.Rb7! and mate is inevitable.
