Interview with Elizbar Ubilava at KCF Academy

As a FIDE Senior Trainer since 2004, Ubilava's expertise has shaped the careers of some of the greatest chess players in history. Most notably, he worked closely with the legendary Viswanathan Anand for nine years from 1994 to 2005, guiding him to the pinnacle of success as World Champion!

"The original A team!!" wrote Anand as caption to this photo. "Elizbar Ubilava and Pablo San Segundo, the team that helped me win my first two Chess Oscars and first World Championship title!" Ubi is sitting next to his wife, Nana.

But Ubilava's impact extends far beyond the confines of individual accolades. His unwavering support for Indian chess during its nascent stages played a pivotal role in its rise to prominence on the global stage.

With victories in the Georgian Chess Championship in 1974 and 1986, as well as representing Georgia in the 1992 Chess Olympiad, Ubilava's prowess as a player is equally impressive.

However, it is perhaps in his role as a trainer where Ubilava truly shines. Renowned as one of the most esteemed chess trainers in the world, he has honed the skills of chess luminaries such as Anatoly Karpov, Nana Ioseliani, and the Georgian Women's Team, leading them to victory in Olympiads, World Championships, and European Championships alike.
