Game of the Week #581

As promised, we are returning to the World Cup, which is entering the final stage with eight players still in the running. Among them Carlsen, Caruana, and no less than four Indians!

Just like two weeks ago, Praggnanandhaa played a fantastic attacking game. Against Berkes he combined great opening prep in the French Advance Variation with imagination and a keen tactical eye. It takes the very best players to combine great results with amazing games.

Warm-up question: What would you play here with White?

This week’s show

The flexible Open Spanish

In this opening Black opts for active piece play and is not afraid to fight for the initiative from an early stage. One of the many good features of this opening is that Black is often the side which controls the pace of the game.
