Game of the Week #579

The World Cup in Baku is a great marathon event with an incredible amount of interesting games to choose from.

We decided to pick Praggnanandhaa's amazing attacking game from the second round against Lagarde. Pragg recently broke the 2700 barrier and at 17 years of age is another member of the new generation making it to the top of the world. The way Pragg carried out the attack qualifies it as his immortal game!

Warm-up question: What would you play here with Black?

M. Lagarde - Praggnanandhaa, World Cup Baku 2023
Position after 15.Bf1

This week’s show

In this opening Black opts for active piece play and is not afraid to fight for the initiative from an early stage. One of the many good features of this opening is that Black is often the side which controls the pace of the game.
