Daulyte-Cornette and Moussard are the 2024 French chess champions

8/30/2024 – Just like a year ago, both the open and the women's French Chess Championships were held as 16-player knockout tournaments. The events took place from August 16-25 in Alpe d'Huez. Jules Moussard and Deimanté Daulyte-Cornette were crowned champions in the open and women's sections respectively. Meet the 'Deo' who donated books to the Temple of Chess

8/30/2024 – On the 15th of August 2024, as Indians celebrated Independence Day, another celebration quietly took place in Mumbai. While one group was busy hoisting the National Flag, the other group was busy cutting the ribbon to launch a special place. GM Vidit Gujrathi inaugurated the 'Temple of Chess', a new concept by ChessBase India for all chess lovers. The main attraction of this place is the vast collection of books. A very kind and generous person named Deodatta Modak from Nashik donated thousands of books to this temple. ChessBase India's Rasika Ratnaparkhi travelled to the home of Deodatta Modak and had the privilege of speaking with him about his chess journey, book collection, and his views on the Temple of Chess. FIDE Solving Championships, with free online lessons for anyone

8/29/2024 – The inaugural FIDE World Solving Championships for Youth (Florianópolis, November 4) and Cadets (Montesilvano, November 21) will take place this autumn. Alireza Firouzja conquers Saint Louis, again!

8/29/2024 – A draw against R. Praggnanandhaa was all Alireza Firouzja needed to take first place at the Sinquefield Cup - and he safely kept the balance until getting the required half point after 47 moves. Firouzja had secured overall victory in the Grand Chess Tour with a round to spare. Karthik Venkataraman clinches second Indian national title

8/28/2024 – Karthik Venkataraman won the 61st edition of the Indian National Championship after scoring 9/11 points at the event organised by the Haryana Chess Association. This is the second victory in a national championship for Karthik, who had also won the tournament in 2022. 8/28/2024 – A round of draws in Saint Louis allowed Alireza Firouzja to keep his 1-point lead over Fabiano Caruana going into the final day of action at the Sinquefield Cup. These results also granted Firouzja victory in the Grand Chess Tour series with a round to spare. David Llada on Chessdom: "Exceptions are granted to reward submission"

8/28/2024 – David Llada is a household name in the world of chess. After working extensively as a chess photographer, he was hired by FIDE as Chief Marketing and Communications Officer. He left the post last year, and only months later asked for permission to work as a photographer for an independent media company (i.e. not FIDE). He was shocked to hear that he would only be granted to work with restrictions, so he refused the offer. Sinquefield Cup: Nepo collapses in the opening

8/26/2024 – Alireza Firouzja is still the sole leader after round 6 of the Sinquefield Cup. Sharing second place are Wesley So and Fabiano Caruana, as the latter joined his compatriot in the chasing pack after beating Ian Nepomniachtchi with black on Sunday. Caruana took advantage of a perplexing mistake by Nepo, who played a game-losing blunder on move 18 out of a Sicilian Dragon. All remaining games finished drawn, though D. It was a 10-player single round-robin featuring 3 players rated 2700 or above and a host of strong, experienced 2600+ participants completing the lineup. Second seed Vincent Keymer had a formidable start, with 5 wins and 2 draws allowing him to win the event with a round to spare despite losing his final 2 games. Niemann obtains clear victory over Bacrot in Paris

8/25/2024 – Hans Niemann clearly defeated Etienne Bacrot in the blitz section of their match in Paris to end the 5-day contest with a 15-point edge over the Frenchman. This was Niemann's third consecutive match victory in the "Hans Niemann against the world" series.
