Svitlana's Smart Moves - The Canadian University Chess Championship 2023

2/10/2023 – After a long time, Svitlana was finally able to play some chess again in the Canadian University Chess Championship 2023. With 4 out of 5, she had a great tournament. We take a look at two of her games, where we specifically analyse her two opening choices. Especially the move 3. .. h6 in the Queen's Gambit, is often unpleasant for White, and Svitlana pulls off a great victory with loads of tactical patterns. In the second game, the London system does the job, and the game is pretty much over after less than 20 moves.

Munich GP: Dzagnidze scores in eventful seventh round

2/10/2023 – In a round that could have been a bloodbath at the Munich Grand Prix, Nana Dzagnidze scored the only win to close the gap with tournament leader Alexandra Kosteniuk to a full point. Dzagnidze beat Alina Kashlinskaya with white, while Kosteniuk escaped with a draw in an entertaining game against Mariya Muzychuk. Airthings Masters: Nakamura knocks out So, reaches Grand Final

Airthings Masters: Carlsen beats Nakamura in Armageddon

2/9/2023 – Magnus Carlsen advanced to the Grand Final of the Airthings Masters by beating Hikaru Nakamura in the winners’ bracket final. All four 15-minute games were drawn in the all-star showdown, leading to a sudden-death decider. Carlsen, who presented a bid merely one second shorter than Nakamura’s, drew with black in Armageddon to win the match. Nakamura will face either Wesley So or Arjun Erigaisi in the final of the losers’ bracket.

2/7/2023 – Three out of four quarterfinal matches in Division I of the Airthings Masters had clear winners — i.e. players who only needed three games to remain in the winners’ bracket. One of these three players was Arjun Erigaisi, as he scored three consecutive wins to take down quick-play specialist Alireza Firouzja. Arjun will face Magnus Carlsen in semis.
