Svitlana's Smart Moves - The Duesseldorf Wunderkinder

Sharjah Masters 2023

2/24/2023 – The tournament will be held at the world's biggest chess club, one that covers an area of 34,000 square feet, including the main hall, which can accommodate up to 500 players. The 6th Sharjah Masters 2023 will take place from May 16th (arrival) to 26th (departure), 2023. Entry fees range from 0 to 300 USD (depending on title and rating), the prizes from 300 to 10,000 USD. Sharjah is the third-most populous city in the United Arab Emirates, after Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

2/24/2023 – Round 7 was a major turning point at the WR Chess Masters in Düsseldorf. Levon Aronian, who had a full-point lead and seemed to be cruising to victory, lost to Ian Nepomniachtchi, while Dommaraju Gukesh got the better of Andrey Esipenko. The Monthly Dragon - 7 Pawns vs. 1 Pawn endgame!?

2/23/2023 – Chris Ward is showing us into an interesting endgame, which occurred between two strong US chess players a couple of weeks ago. The dragon variation, which we look at, leads us to an endgame with 7 pawns vs. 1 pawn, but with a full rook less! Which side would you rather be? At this point, the engine says = 0.00 equal position. 2/22/2023 – After all games finished drawn in round 6 of the WR Chess Masters, Levon Aronian continues to have a full-point lead atop the standings. The sole leader entered a sharp line with black against Wesley So, but failed to find a couple of precise continuations that would have given him very good winning chances. ECU on Russia transferring to Asia

2/22/2023 – In January the Russian Chess Federation applied for membership of the Asian Chess Federation and announced its intention to withdraw from ECU. Now Russian players who live in Europe and do not want to follow the RCF to Asia will be permitted to transfer to the ECU without paying fees to Russia and FIDE. They will also be eligible to play in the European Individual Chess Championship. Statement of the European Chess Union.

2/22/2023 – The first Cambridge International Open took place from Wednesday 15th to Sunday 19th February at the historic University Arms Hotel in Cambridge. In the first round top seed GM Michael Adams (2757) only drew against Henry Adams (1738), but still won the strong tournament convincingly with 8.0/9. WR Masters: Aronian beats Giri to widen the gap

2/21/2023 – Levon Aronian scored a third win in five rounds to get a full-point lead at the WR Chess Masters in Düsseldorf. Aronian beat Anish Giri with white, breaking the Dutchman’s 28-game unbeaten streak. Table Tennis and joy on the rest day of the WR Chess Masters 2023

2/21/2023 – Different tournaments have different kinds of rest days! At the WR Chess Masters 2023, the players and organizers had a great time with a well organized mini-table tennis event. 7 out of the 10 participants of the main tournament took part in this round robin tournament with Gelfand, Dana Reizneice and Wadim Rosenstein joining them. It was a keenly contested event with Andrey Esipenko edging everyone out and taking the top spot. Sagar Shah who travelled to Dusseldorf brings you a fun report.
