5/5/2026 – It was a rainy night in Sivakasi, and there was a power cut, but it didn't stop 8-year-old Tamizh Amudhan from playing Freestyle Friday on chess.com. The laptop was on, the mobile hotspot was connected, the candle was lit, and the spirit was high as usual. It was 8:30 PM IST on 1 May when Tamizh Amudhan got paired up against elite GM Vincent Keymer, who recently qualified for the Freestyle World Championship 2027 after winning the Grenke Freestyle Chess tournament, and guess what happened? 5/4/2026 – The Candidates has delivered a spectacular winner with 20-year-old Javokhir Sindarov, but just as spectacular is the rise of 14-year-old Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus. In part 3 of the Clash of Generation matches Erdogmus crushed the legendary Veselin Topalov with 5-1. In fact most games were quite close and tense affairs, but Erdogmus was tactically more accurate, even when he had to navigate through complex positions living from increment only. 5/2/2026 – FIDE has opened early registration for ChessMom 2026, a programme designed to support professional players who are mothers at the Chess Olympiad in Uzbekistan. Building on its 2024 debut, the initiative offers financial and logistical assistance, with expanded eligibility now including mothers of children under two. National federations and players are encouraged to register interest ahead of the official regulations.

5/2/2026 – With the results of the Candidates Tournament and several other tournaments, there was some movement in the top of the FIDE world rankings. Javokhir Sindarov is the rising star in the overall list. Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus also gained many points and extended his lead in the juniors list.
