4/18/2019 – On Thursday at 15:00 UTC (17:00 CEST / 11 AM EDT), join us for a live question and answer session with world number two Fabiano Caruana, who will tackle ChessBase reader questions for about 30 minutes. Post your question in the comments section below and you'll be entered into a contest for a new Opening Encyclopedia autographed by Fabiano!

Over 1,100 special theoretical databases, 180 new opening surveys, a large number revised — in total 6,680 surveys — and over 38,000 illustrative games.

Live Q & A webcast

Grandmaster and former World Championship challenger Fabiano Caruana will be live in the ChessBase studio one more time on Thursday for a question and answer session with ChessBase readers.

Watch live

The live show is free to watch, and available on-demand shortly afterwards.

CaruanaThanks for all questions submitted! Each ChessBase account holder will be entered into a random drawing for a copy of the new Opening Encyclopaedia 2019 signed by Caruana himself!

We'll hold the drawing during the live webcast.

[Update: Congratulations to "Williammng" who won the random drawing!]

On Wednesday, Fabiano was Karsten Mueller's guest on Endgame Magic, and he has been working all week on a new FritzTrainer video series which will be published later this year.

On Friday, he'll be off again, this time to the Grenke Chess Classic.

But before that he joins us for his first visit to the ChessBase HQ. And you can be there too! Tune in shortly after 17:00 for a live webcast Q & A and a look at one of his recent games.

You can watch later in the Ask the Experts category of the ChessBase Videos portal.

Do you have any advice for a player who is rated at around 2300 Elo, favors positional openings over sharp ones, but still likes to fight for the win even when playing black? Could be anything that comes to your mind, like training advice, opening systems, great players whose games to study, etc.

What is your number one tip for players in the 1900 range trying to improve and get their rating up to 2000+? Thank you for your massive contributions to American chess. You make America proud!

Greetings, sir! I would like to ask you about your views on current opening trends: what do you think, which openings or variations have possibilities to contain novel and deep ideas as of now?

Hello Fabi!

Who would feature in your lineup for a team of 5 greatest chess players of all-time? How would you arrange them from boards 1-5? On which board would you like to play in that team?

Question: would you want your child to be a chess player?

Hey Fabi! You've made me and all other Americans proud by your excellent wins in major tournaments like grenke, candidates, Norway chess, etc.
I made a bet with my rival at work that you would win the WCC and if you didn't I had to do 200 push-ups. I gladly did those and would two hundred more if you win the candidates in 2020. My question is how motivated are you to face Magnus again? I have full faith you can win in 2020 and I'm waiting to see you shine as you deserve to!

What (approximately) should be given time for thinking when solving the puzzles to improve the calculation skill for an ambitious player?

What is the significance of practical play in chess? Are you a more practical or calculative player?

Hello Fabi. Which modern chess player, in your opinion, has the best chances of dethroning the current Chess world champion Magnus Carlsen?

On time controls:
Would you favor a traditional type control of 40/100 and 20/30 with a d3, and then a sudden death g/15 but with now 30 sec increment from move 61?

What is your advice for amateurs looking to improve their play?

Try posing your chess question in the form of a diagram. E.g. Here was the starting puzzle for the Endgame Magic show

How to develop more and more love for our lovely game. There won't be clear answer obviously but different tricks like any book showing beautiful classics or imaginative studies rather with deep calculations or watching live commentary and so on
