An eventful round

There is already a Chinese woman on the throne of the women’s world champion, and there are also two Chinese women playing in the current Candidates Final. And Zhu Jiner seems to be making her way into this circle. In the overall Grand Prix ranking, she is already in a position that would entitle her to participate in the next Candidates Tournament, and at the event in New Delhi, she does not seem to want to be ousted from it.

Facing Humpy Koneru in the fourth round, Zhu simply had to make solid moves — and victory almost came by itself:

Instead of e3-e4, White has found a completely different solution to the initially unsettled situation in the centre. And this is not bad, because she has good control of e4 and e5, but also of the "breakthrough squares" on the e-file. 18...Qd7 19.Nf5 Bf8 20.g4?! This weakening of White's king position does not seem to bring any positive results. Solid was 20.Ne3 which could be followed by Ng4. 20...g6 21.Ng3?! The retreat 21.Ne3! was suitable to prevent Black's next move. 21...Ne4! 22.Be1 22.fxe4 does not work: dxe4 along with Qxd4+ etc. 22...Nd6 The knight is better here than on f6. 23.Rc1 Nc4 24.Bxc4 dxc4 25.Qxc4 Bg7
White's position is noticeably worse. King security, e-file, bishop pair, the d4-pawn - all factors that favour Black. 26.Bc3? This was a losing move. 26.Qxc7? Qd5 27.Qc2 Re3-+ 26.f5 Rbc8 27.d5 Bxd5 28.Qf4 with chances to survive. 26...Re3! Now White would like to play Qxc7, but it is no longer possible. 27.Bb2 Rxf3 28.Rxf3 Bxf3 29.h3 Qd6
You can clearly see the negative consequences of g2-g4. 30.Qf1 Qxf4 31.Qf2 Bxd4 32.Bxd4 Qxc1+ 33.Kh2 Rd8 34.Ne2 Bxe2 35.Qf6 Rxd4 36.Qxd4 Qd1
