The (k)nightrider in fairy chess is a piece that can move any number of steps as a knight in the same direction. So a knightrider on b1 can go to a3, c3, d5, e7, d2, f3 and h4. It has the ability to jump as a normal knight, so it should be at least as strong as a rook. That makes its name fit in here as well, as this knight surely is quite a bit stronger than the black rook!

I think that Jonathan Rowson introduced the concept of talking to the pieces in chess. I have made one DVD on it:
