Game of the Week: Chandra vs Lenderman

by Merijn van Delft
1/8/2020 – For tonight's training IM Merijn van Delft turns West to Charlotte, North Carolina and a rare Alekhine's Defence between grandmasters. The live show is free to watch, and available on-demand for ChessBase Premium account holders (but FREE for a limited time!). Merijn is live this week starting at 19:00 UTC (20:00 CET / 4 PM EST).

Scarcely any world champion has managed to captivate chess lovers to the extent Carlsen has. The enormously talented Norwegian hasn't been systematically trained within the structures of a major chess-playing nation such as Russia, the Ukraine or China.

Game of the Week #394

The past week was a relatively quiet one, as the 2700 club had a break from classical chess. When checking the other tournaments, I came across a model game played with the Four Pawns Attack against the Alekhine Defence. Since this variation has never gained main line status, it is an interesting topic for study tonight.

The live show is free to watch, and available on-demand for ChessBase Premium accounts.

Warming-up question: What would you play here with White?
