Winning starts with what you know
The new version 18 offers completely new possibilities for chess training and analysis: playing style analysis, search for strategic themes, access to 6 billion Lichess games, player preparation by matching Lichess games, download Chess.com games with built-in API, built-in cloud engine and much more.
The Canadian Zonal Tournaments — Open Zonal Tournament and Women’s Zonal Tournament — were played from 27 March to 4 April at Hart House Chess Club, the official chess club of the University of Toronto. At stake in the zonal tournaments were the title of Canadian Champion, a place on the national team for the 2024 Chess Olympiad in Budapest and qualification for the 2025 World Cup.
The programme was tight: 10 rounds were played according to the Swiss system in the open tournament and 9 rounds in the women’s tournament.
The open tournament was dominated by IM Shiyam Thavandiran, who won with 9 points from 10 games (8 wins, 2 draws) and a Tournament Performance Rating of 2715 to secure the title of Canadian Champion.

The women’s tournament was much more competitive, and after nine rounds three players were finished sharing first place with 7½ out of 9 points: Maili-Jade Ouellet, ChessBase author Svitlana Demchenko and Li Yunshan. Ouellet was declared the winner on tiebreak criteria and thus became the new Canadian Women’s Champion.
