5/3/2024 – GM Yair Parkhov from Israel continues to lead the Sardinia World Chess Festival - with 6.0/7 he is half a point of no less than nine players with 5.5/7. In round 8 Parkhov has White against Kirill Shevchenko. In the B-Open Alexandra Botez leads with 6.5/7 and is one point ahead of five players with 5.5/7. Andrea and Alexandra Botez stream their games live with commentary by Jon-Ludvig Hammer and Dina Belenkaya. Round 8 starts at 15:00 local time (9:00 ET).

Around 300 players take part in three Opens at the Sardina World Festival 2024, which has an excellent prize fund of just over 50,000 euros. 167 players started in the A-Open, a 9-round Swiss.

The field is strong: 11 players have a rating of 2600+, top seed is Vladimir Fedoseev with a rating of 2690. For Alexandra and Andrea Botez, it is the last stop on their trip to Europe. The two Canadian streamers broadcast their own matches on video and provide commentary on their Botezlive channel.
