In games 3 and 5 of the match Vishy scored two crucial victories with the black pieces. Now almost 15 years later, the line has a slightly dubious reputation but White has to be very precise.

Like Kramnik, Mamedyarov wasn't familiar with the theory (or simply forgot...) and found himself in deep trouble soon, allowing Sevian to seize the initiative which he duly converted.
