Rapid Interview - Savitha Shri Baskar

by Arne Kaehler
1/25/2023 – Rapid interviews are fun: interviewer and guest face each other in an epic rapid chess battle. The chess guest not only has to face the interviewer's questions, but also concentrate on the chess game at the same time. This leads to surprising answers and sometimes to curious chess positions. Indian super talent Savitha Shri recently bagged the Bronze medal in the World Rapid Chess 2022, and reached the fabulous rating of over 2400. Also, today is her birthday, and she turns 16! Congratulations, and well played. | Photo: Instagram Savitha Shri

Rapid Interview with Savitha Shri B

Meanwhile, we all know the many chess talents of India. Erigaisi, Gukesh, Pragg, Vidit, or Sarin, just to name a few, are winning big tournaments more frequently since a couple of years. Besides female Indian top players Humpy Koneru, Dronavalli Harika, and Rameshbabu Vaishali, a fourth mega star is rising - Savitha Shri

She won the bronze medal in the World Rapid Chess 2022, and beat players like IM Sarasadat Khademalsharieh, or the GM's Antoaneta Stefanova, and Bela Khotenashvili.

Not only that, but her newest rating has advanced to over 2400!

The WIM took Arne's Rapid Interview Challenge, as he tried to get her out of the rhythm and asked her countless questions. Lucky for the ChessBase amateur, in the second game, Savitha's dog Rocky kept on the disruptions, and Arne had a chance to win with a mesmerizing attack. Did he manage, though?

Savitha answer's questions like:

  • Was the Bronze medal your greatest success so far?
  • Who taught you chess?
  • How much time will you take studying, and for chess in the future?
  • What three chess books can you recommend to the viewers?
  • What are your hobbies besides playing chess?
  • Do you believe, bullet chess can destroy your classical chess?
  • And many more ...
