Polish Women's Championship: Klaudia Kulon starts with 3 out of 3

8/7/2020 – After the Open Polish Championship, which Kacper Piorun won, the Polish Chess Federation now organises the National Women's Championship. Klaudia Kulon had the best start and leads with 3 out of 3. This increasingly popular opening is easy to pick up as the Black pieces can usually be developed quickly and smoothly. Many of the ideas are thematic and Black can achieve attacking positions in several of the variations.

MOKATE Polish Women's Championship

From 3 to 12 August the Polish Chess Federation will hold the National Championship for Women in Ostrów Wielkopolski (Ostrowo). Unlike the Open Tournament, the Women's Championship is played as a round robin tournament with ten participants. The opening ceremony took place in the New Synagogue in Ostrów Wielkopolski.

Elo-favourite is Monika Socko but it was Klaudia Kulon who had the best start: in the first three rounds she won all of her games. Her win in round three was particularly entertaining:

Johannes Fischer was born in 1963 in Hamburg and studied English and German literature in Frankfurt. He now lives as a writer and translator in Nürnberg. He is a FIDE-Master and regularly writes for KARL, a German chess magazine focusing on the links between culture and chess. On his own blog he regularly publishes notes on "Film, Literature and Chess".
