Jan Werle: Caro-Kann Advance Variation 3…Bf5 4.c4

1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.e5 Bf5 4.c4

At the FIDE World Cup, Magnus Carlsen surprised his opponent Vladimir Fedoseev in the Caro-Kann Advance Variation with 4.c4. Jan Werle takes this game as the starting point for a video analysis lasting more than half an hour. In the game 4…e6 5.Nc3 Bb4 6.cxd5 followed. Werle examines the consequences of Fedoseev's 6… Qxd5 as well as of 6… cxd5.

Robert Ris: Attack idea against the Taimanov Variation

1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 e6 3.d4 exd4 4.Nxd4 Nc6 5.Nc3 Qc7 6.Be3 a6 7.g4

The aggressive 7.g4 has already attracted a lot of attention this year, e.g. Anish Giri tried it with success against Ian Nepomniachtchi in March. In that game, the World Cup challenger replied with 7…h6, but after 8.h4 Nf6 9.Nxc6 bxc6 10.Qf3 Giri got a comfortable position. In his analysis, Robert Ris takes the critical continuation 7…Nxd4 8.Qxd4 b5 9.0-0-0 Bb7 10.Kb1!? under the microscope. Total playing time: 38 minutes!

This time Spyridon Kapnisis contributes “The Brilliancy”. However, the GM from Greece does not analyse one of his own games, but the encounter between Eltaj Safarli and Nidjat Mamedov from the Azerbaijan Championship. Already the opening of this game is remarkable: The Delayed Middle Gambit with 1.e4 e5 2.Nc3 Nf6 3.d4!? exd4 4.Qxd4 Nc6 5.Qd3 is surprisingly popular. Robert Ris has recently published a detailed opening article on that line in ChessBase Magazine # 203!

In addition to the brilliancy by Safarli 29 other extensively commented games await you in the “Lucky bag”! These include analyses by Romain Edouard, Michal Krasenkow, Sagar, Spyridon Kapnisis and Tanmay Srinath. "Duda's triumph" - the game between the Polish superstar and Magnus Carlsen from the tiebreak of the 2021 World Cup, is at the top, analysed by Sagar Shah.

And last but not least: the Update Service delivers over 50,000 new games for your database.

Once again, almost the entire world is represented! And there are also some new games from Garry Kasparov!

The games from the Update Service are also included in the Mega Update Service 2021, which can be used with the programs ChessBase 15/16.
