A Grandmaster since 2002, she claimed the Women's World Chess Champion title in 2004 and has represented Bulgaria at the highest levels of international competition for over two decades. With numerous victories in elite tournaments and a reputation for fearless, dynamic play, Stefanova is celebrated for her deep understanding of the game and her inspiring presence as a global chess ambassador. In 2012, she won the World Women’s Rapid Championship.
Antoaneta Stefanova has had a remarkable chess career, scoring as one of the world’s top female players for over two decades. Known for her consistency and versatility, triumphed in several strong open tournaments traditionally dominated by men.
Beyond her chess achievements, Antoaneta has been active in both social and political spheres. In 2021, she became a Member of Parliament representing the There Are Such People party and was nominated as its candidate for Prime Minister. In 2023, she captained the young Bulgarian women’s team to victory at the European Women’s Team Championship. That same year, she was awarded the FIDE Senior Trainer title.

5/11/2025 – Round four of the Superbet Chess Classic in Bucharest saw Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and Levon Aronian securing crucial wins to shake up the standings. Vachier-Lagrave's victory over world champion Gukesh Dommaraju propelled him into a three-way tie for the lead alongside Fabiano Caruana and Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu, both of whom drew their games. 5/10/2025 – The Baku Open, the inaugural event of the newly launched "Chess Tour Azerbaijan", concluded on 6 May at the Baku Crystal Hall. Serbian GM Aleksandar Indjic emerged as the clear winner in the Group A section, finishing unbeaten with a score of 7/9. Georgian GM Baadur Jobava and Turkish GM Vahap Sanal shared second place, just half a point behind.
