Game of the Week #660

The German Bundesliga is very strong and the days of Baden-Baden as the only team with a line-up full of super GMs are over. Currently, the Düsseldorfer SK is leading the way and is the clear favourite to win the title.

In the match between the Hamburger SK and Baden-Baden, Germany's number 2 Frederik Svane (21) faced Germany's number 1 Vincent Keymer (20) with the white pieces. Both sides played with a lot of ambition, which led to a spectacular game.

Warm-up question: What would you play here with White?

The flexible Open Spanish

In this opening Black opts for active piece play and is not afraid to fight for the initiative from an early stage. One of the many good features of this opening is that Black is often the side which controls the pace of the game.
