Game of the Week #648

After eight games the World Championship match is tied 4-4 and is becoming more and more tense. Most people feel that Ding would be the favorite in a rapid and blitz tiebreak, so the pressure on Gukesh increases to take the lead. While by now Ding seems to be happy to make a draw whenever he can, Gukesh does try as much as he can and does indeed get good chances.

Our Game of the Week is the seventh game, where Gukesh played really strong and Ding was on the verge of losing.

Warm-up question: What would you play here with Black?

This week's show

The flexible Open Spanish

In this opening Black opts for active piece play and is not afraid to fight for the initiative from an early stage. One of the many good features of this opening is that Black is often the side which controls the pace of the game.
