Game of the Week #631

One of the best summer tournaments is the HZ tournament in Vlissingen, in the southwest of the Netherlands. The games are played in the evening which makes for a nice atmosphere.

In the fifth round, top seed Erwin L'Ami played a very inspiring game against German FM Pascal Karsay. Black was doing very well for a long time, but suddenly White's subtle strategy paid off.

Warm-up question: What would you play here with White?

This week's show

The flexible Open Spanish

In this opening Black opts for active piece play and is not afraid to fight for the initiative from an early stage. One of the many good features of this opening is that Black is often the side which controls the pace of the game.
