Game of the Week #630

Le Quang Liem is an amazing player who has been around for many years but seems to keep improving and at the age of 33 he has now reached a peak rating of 2741. He won the final of the Biel tournament and our game of the week is his decisive win with Black against Praggnanandhaa.

Although Le Quang Liem is a tactical powerhouse, his games often seem a little dull, but sooner or later his opponents make a mistake and he wins. Very fascinating and instructive stuff.

Warm-up question: What would you play here with Black?

This week's show

The flexible Open Spanish

In this opening Black opts for active piece play and is not afraid to fight for the initiative from an early stage. One of the many good features of this opening is that Black is often the side which controls the pace of the game.
