Game of the Week #626

Alireza Firouzja had a tough start to the Superbet Romania Chess Classic, losing from a good position with White to Caruana in the first round. In his subsequent games with White, he was able to create chances and did a great job, winning two of them. He impressively beat Abdusattorov from an Exchange Slav and our game of the week is his convincing win in the 4.a3 Nimzo-Indian against So, making the most of a very tricky opening novelty.

Warm-up question: What would you play here with White?

The flexible Open Spanish

In this opening Black opts for active piece play and is not afraid to fight for the initiative from an early stage. One of the many good features of this opening is that Black is often the side which controls the pace of the game.
