Game of the Week #623

This is the third (!) time this year that we have featured a match between Abdusattorov and Maghsoodloo as our Game of the Week. Nodirbek won their previous meetings in Wijk aan Zee and Prague, but only after an extremely complex battle. This time around in Tashkent, it was another exciting, high-level battle.

Warm-up question: What would you play here with White?

This week’s show

The flexible Open Spanish

In this opening Black opts for active piece play and is not afraid to fight for the initiative from an early stage. One of the many good features of this opening is that Black is often the side which controls the pace of the game.
