Game of the Week #608

The 6th edition of the Prague International Chess Festival has started and the field is very attractive with most members of the new generation of world class players participating. After two rounds Maghsoodloo, who lost a lot of rating in Wijk aan Zee, is the sole leader. His big fight against Praggnanandha in round two is our game of the week.

It was a lovely clash of styles and in the end all the risks paid off.

Warm-up question: What would you play here with White?

P. Maghsoodloo - Praggnanandhaa, Prague Chess Festival 2024
Position after 27...b5

This week’s show

In this opening Black opts for active piece play and is not afraid to fight for the initiative from an early stage. One of the many good features of this opening is that Black is often the side which controls the pace of the game.
