Game of the Week #595

Serbia won the European Team Championship ahead of Germany. Serbia were boosted by the addition of Predke and Sarana to the team, and Germany are starting to benefit from the young new generation of strong grandmasters led by Keymer. It was a close finish with both teams in good shape.

We have decided to make the top pairing of Predke-Keymer our Game of the Week, even though it lasted 98 moves and was a tough technical battle. That too is part of chess!

Warm-up question: What would you play here with White?

The flexible Open Spanish

In this opening Black opts for active piece play and is not afraid to fight for the initiative from an early stage. One of the many good features of this opening is that Black is often the side which controls the pace of the game.
