Game of the Week #568

The heavyweight Superbet Chess Classic was won by Caruana, half a point ahead of four other players, including World Championship super assistant Rapport.

It turned out that the tournament was really a bit too early for both Ding and Nepomniachtchi, who lost a valuable 9 and 15 rating points respectively. We are going to study the impressive technical performance by Caruana with the white pieces against Nepo from round four.

Warm-up question: What would you play here with White?

The flexible Open Spanish

In this opening Black opts for active piece play and is not afraid to fight for the initiative from an early stage. One of the many good features of this opening is that Black is often the side which controls the pace of the game.
