Game of the Week #558

The individual European Championship is being held in Vrnjacka Banja, Serbia, and at this point the proud leader is Anton Korobov with 5 out of 5.

While many players have a safety-first approach and tend to consolidate their top position with a relatively quick draw here and there, Korobov is playing for first place with his trademark active positional style. In round five against Ruslan Ponomariov, he came up with a truly remarkable concept that hardly anyone in the world would have found.

Warm-up question: What would you play here with White?

The flexible Open Spanish

In this opening Black opts for active piece play and is not afraid to fight for the initiative from an early stage. One of the many good features of this opening is that Black is often the side which controls the pace of the game.
