Game of the Week #555

Last Saturday the sixth round of the Dutch League took place, with the top match AMEVO Apeldoorn vs Groninger Combinatie resulting in 6-4 for the current national champion. The absolute top clash of the day was Max Warmerdam vs Jorden van Foreest.

Since they are good friends, they quickly avoided the main lines. A tense battle followed, which is our Game of the Week.

Warm-up question: What would you play here with White?

The flexible Open Spanish

In this opening Black opts for active piece play and is not afraid to fight for the initiative from an early stage. One of the many good features of this opening is that Black is often the side which controls the pace of the game.
