Game of the Week #544

Last weekend the German Bundesliga played rounds 3 and 4 of the current season and after the weekend four teams are still on 100%: SG Solingen, Schachfreunde Deizisau, OSG Baden-Baden and SC Vierheim.

Our "Game of the Week" was played by Jan Gustafsson, well-known commentator and one of Germany's strongest Grandmasters. As he is busy streaming and commentating, Jan at the moment does not play that often, but he is still famous for his deep opening knowledge and refined positional play. But against Spartak Grigorian he showed that he also knows how to attack and how to play spectular combinations.

Warm-up question: What would you play here with White?

The flexible Open Spanish

In this opening Black opts for active piece play and is not afraid to fight for the initiative from an early stage. One of the many good features of this opening is that Black is often the side which controls the pace of the game.
