Game of the Week #514

The German Bundesliga has been dominated by OSG Baden-Baden for many years, but while the team is getting older, other teams are getting stronger. A new generation of German top grandmasters is emerging.

When it comes to instructive strategical games, my friend Erwin l’Ami never disappoints. With a steady hand, he outplayed the talented Frederik Svane.

Warm-up question: What would you play here with White?

The flexible Open Spanish

In this opening Black opts for active piece play and is not afraid to fight for the initiative from an early stage. One of the many good features of this opening is that Black is often the side which controls the pace of the game.
