Fast and Furious: The Sveshnikov surge

by Robert Ris
8/29/2019 – In this episode IM Robert Ris tackles the increasingly popular Sveshnikov variation of the Sicilian defence. The live show at 17:00 UTC (19:00 CEST / 1 PM EDT) is free to watch, and available on-demand for ChessBase Premium account holders (but FREE for a limited time!). To chat, please visit videos.chessbase.com/live or login via Playchess for Windows. In the diagram, it's White to play and win!

Always wanted to play like a World Champion? Search no further! With Magnus Carlsen using the Sveshnikov variation as his weapon of choice in the World Championship match against Fabiano Caruana, this DVD could not be better timed.

White's dynamic option: 9.♗xf6

Since the World Championship match between Caruana and Carlsen the Sveshnikov opening is getting back to its level of popularity 15 years ago. Tonight we will discuss White's dynamic option with 9.♗xf6, which used to be the critical challenge of Black's ambitious approach. Nowadays this line has become less popular than the positional variation with 9.♘d5, while 7.♘d5 is currently White's main option since the WC match in London 2018. In this episode of the Fast & Furious we will discuss thematic ideas for both sides, as well as some recent developments in correspondence games. Fascinating attacking ideas will be shown!

The live show is free to watch and available on-demand for ChessBase Premium accounts.
