After three games, the match between Elisabeth Paehtz and Dinara Wagner at the Dortmund International Chess Festival is still tied.
Wagner opened the third game with White, and Paehtz played the King's Indian Defence. The position quickly turned into a Benoni structure, which was slightly favourable for Black. Paehtz had a small advantage on the open e-file and subsequently regretted not having got more out of the middlegame.
Wagner, on her part, realised that she would not be able to get more than half a point, defended skilfully and ultimately managed to simplify into an equal endgame.

The score is now 1½-1½. On Thursday, Paehtz will try to make the most of her second game with the white pieces.
In a total of 6 chapters, we look at the following aspects: the right decision based on tactical factors, decisions in exchanges and moves, complex and psychological decisions in longer games and in defence.
A-Open: Korobov, Quesada and Gavrilescu co-leaders
In the A-Open, Israeli FM Nadav Zemach, who was the sole leader after round 4, lost unnecessarily against Ukrainian grandmaster Anton Korobov. Rather than simplifying into a drawn rook ending, Zemach let the game slip out of his hands, and Korobov took the chance he had been waiting for.
On the second board, IM Vadym Petrovskyi was satisfied with a draw while playing white against GM Frederik Svane. Petrovskyi sacrificed an exchange to force a perpetual check.

Two other grandmasters are level with Korobov at the top: GM Luis Quesada (Cuba) and GM David Gavrilescu (Romania) won their games in the fifth round. Meanwhile, GM Christopher Yoo recovered from his defeat the day before, winning against FM Jonas Gallasch and is now trailing the leading trio by half a point.
