After six of a total of nine rounds, three players are in the lead at the Munich Open. Vladimir Fedoseev and Pavel Eljanov, two of the Elo favourites, have both scored 5 points. The less well-known Georgian grandmaster Giga Quaparadze (36) has achieved the same score and joined the leading trio.

The leading group is followed by seven players with half a point less, including the three German grandmasters Dmitrij Kollars, Frederik Svane and Marco Baldauf. Kollars and Svane have both played against Fedoseev. Kollars drew in round four, but F. Svane had to accept a defeat in round five, which interrupted a winning streak of four victories.

The best woman in the field is Evgeniya Doluhanova, who also has 4.5 points. In round seven, Fesoseev and Quparadze will face each other, while Pavel Eljanov will have Black against Marco Baldauf.
