4/21/2024 – Tan Zhongyi secured outright victory in the Women’s Candidates Tournament after safely drawing her game against Anna Muzychuk with black. Gukesh D, on his part, first drew Hikaru Nakamura and then had to wait for the result of the game between Fabiano Caruana and Ian Nepomniachtchi. Caruana missed a number of winning chances in a memorable encounter that lasted 109 moves, thus granting 17-year-old Gukesh overall victory and the right to face Ding Liren in the next match for the World Chess Championship! | Replay all the games with computer-assisted analysis. Round 14
Both events are double round-robins, meaning that each player will face each of their rivals twice, once with white and once with black. Fourteen rounds of the tournament will be played over three weeks, with four rest days.
The time controls for each section are different:
Open: 120 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from move 41.
Women’s: 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from move 41.
If there is a tie for first place after 14 rounds, a rapid (and blitz if necessary) playoff to determine the winner shall be played.
In this course, we will learn how to identify passively placed pieces in any given situation and how to improve their health by bringing them into active squares.
