Game of the Week #621

Last week we discussed the game Van Meegen vs Kramer from the Limburg GM tournament, and this week we will cover a game by the winner of the Limburg Open. Chess legend Mikhail Gurevich shared first place with local hero Max Warmerdam after the latter squeezed a win out of an endgame in the final minutes of the tournament.

Our game of the week is Gurevich's sixth round win over FM Mees van Osch, with a unique endgame you have never seen before.

Warm-up question: What would you play here with Black?

This week’s show

The flexible Open Spanish

In this opening Black opts for active piece play and is not afraid to fight for the initiative from an early stage. One of the many good features of this opening is that Black is often the side which controls the pace of the game.
