Carlsen and Caruana to play Freestyle Chess match in Singapore

10/14/2024 – Magnus Carlsen and Fabiano Caruana are set to compete in an exciting Freestyle Chess match in Singapore, just days before the Classical World Chess Championship between Ding Liren and Dommaraju Gukesh. Organised by Jan-Henric Buettner, the match is part of a broader effort to popularise Freestyle Chess, or chess960, as Buettner’s company prepares for the 2025 Freestyle Chess Grand Slam.

Continental Kings clinch Global Chess League for the second consecutive year

10/13/2024 – Triveni Continental Kings defeated PBG Alaskan Knights in both matches of the Finals to defend their Tech Mahindra Global Chess League title. In the first match, Alireza Firouzja and Alexandra Kosteniuk scored the key wins for TCK. Nodirbek Abdusattorov was the sole victor for PBG AK. In the second match, the 'Icon' of PBG AK, Anish Giri, avenged his loss against Firouzja by playing fast, furious and accurate chess. Shakhriyar Mamedyarov was the only other winner for the team. Demolishment of a “Summary Demolishment”

10/12/2024 – In 1875 Walter Grimshaw, a composer of chess problems who was not far off master strength as a player, played at least one casual game against Steinitz at Simpson’s Divan, and supposedly won in 17 moves. But was this “summary demolishment” actually played? Steinitz called the game, which was published in the International Chess Magazine, "a deliberately bogus manufactured forgery." 10/12/2024 – Javokhir Sindarov won an exhilarating battle against Daniel Dardha to power his team, Triveni Continental Kings, to the Finals of the Tech Mahindra Global Chess League. Magnus Carlsen had an exciting finish against Alireza Firouzja. However, his win was not enough for his team, Alpine SG Pipers, to advance to the Finals. The other finalist, PBG Balan Alaskan Knights, scored a dominating victory over American Gambits 5-14. It was the closest match of the event so far, as the final score was 10-9.
