US Juniors and Seniors: Lee, Guo and Khachiyan sole leaders

7/23/2023 – In the seventh round of the US Junior Championship played on Saturday, Arthur Guo (pictured) defeated Andrew Hong, who entered the round tied with him in first place. Since Abhimanyu Mishra, the third member of the former leading trio, had to settle for a draw against Justin Wang, Guo became the sole leader with two rounds to go. Ju Wenjun scores clutch win, defends World Championship title

7/22/2023 – Ju Wenjun won the twelfth and final classical game of her match against Lei Tingjie to successfully defend the Women’s World Championship title. This is Ju’s fourth victory in a fight for the biggest title in women’s chess. Happy International Chess Day from The Gift of Chess!

Unfortunately, due to a lack of chess sets, the communities that could benefit the most from chess do not have access to the game. That is why the organisation Gift of Chess celebrated International Chess Day, sharing their commitment to distribute 1,000,000 chess sets globally by 2030. Biel: Keymer beats Yu, leads

7/22/2023 – The new sole leader of the Grandmaster Triathlon in Biel is Vincent Keymer. The youngest participant in the competition beat top seed Yu Yangyi and was thus able to leave former co-leader Navara behind in the standings. The latter signed his third consecutive draw, this time against Bogdan-Daniel Deac. Le Quang Liem climbed to third place after beating Arjun Erigaisi. | Photos: Official website

Women’s World Championship - All games

7/22/2023 – Ju Wenjun claimed her fourth Women’s World Champion title after clinching a crucial victory in the decisive, final, 12th game of the match against challenger Lei Tingjie. With this victory, Ju has now equalled the record set by her compatriot Hou Yifan, both having won the world crown four times. Apart from defending the title, Ju also won €300,000 in prize money, while €200,000 went to the runner-up Lei Tingjie.

Gukesh outstanding at the Turkish Super League, reaches 2750

7/21/2023 – On Thursday, the strong Isbank Turkish Super League, Turkey’s team championship, came to an end in Ankara. The Turkish Airline Sports Club topped the standings. Top players sign an open letter in support of Vasyl Ivanchuk

7/21/2023 – Living legend Vasyl Ivanchuk received a wild card from FIDE to participate in the upcoming World Cup in Baku. According to current legislation, he needs permission from the Ministry of Youth and Sports to leave the country for sports purposes as he is under the age of 60. Such permission was not granted. 7/20/2023 – Melikset Khachiyan, a former coach of Levon Aronian, won the clash of co-leaders in round 5 of the US Seniors Championship as he beat Maxim Dlugy with white to take the sole lead in the standings.
