Kramnik takes polygraph test

8/23/2024 – Vladimir Kramnik, known for his strong stance on fair play, took the test to address long-standing rumors and cheating allegations dating back to the 2006 World Chess Championship, as well as more recent accusations in online games. The test, conducted by Pinkerton, revealed “No Deception Indicated” on all key questions, including Kramnik’s role in the controversial “Toiletgate” scandal. Inspired by Kramnik’s example, World Chess is now introducing voluntary polygraph testing as an additional tool to combat cheating.

Spilimbergo - the biggest Open in Italy

8/23/2024 – Spilimbergo is a pleasant little town of about 12,000 inhabitants, located about 100 kilometres north-east of Venice. The town is most famous for its over 100-year-old mosaic school - and for chess! The festival was held for the 22nd time this year and attracted 450 participants from 31 countries. Among them was Levy 'Gotham Chess' Rozman, who came to the Italian city to take another step on his way to becoming a grandmaster. In the end, however, the winner of the tournament was the Iranian IM Orimi Mahdi Gholami, who won with 7 out of 9 rating points. With his win over Anish Giri, Nepo joined Alireza Firouzja in the lead. Caruana, on his part, beat Nodirbek Abdusattorov and now has a 50-percent score. | Photo: Crystal Fuller

8/20/2024 – After an intense first day of games, José Martínez has taken a 7-5 lead over former World Champion Vladimir Kramnik. The event, which features both online and over-the-board matches, is designed to address the hot topic of cheating in chess. “I noticed that the online part was working perfectly this time," said Kramnik, "no lag, no bugs, and no fair play issues." You can join many top players watching the encounter for two more days. | Photo by Antony Jones/Getty Images for World Chess.

Sinquefield Cup: Firouzja takes down Caruana

8/20/2024 – The two most anticipated matchups of the Sinquefield Cup were seen in the very first round of the event. The duel between World Championship contenders Ding Liren and D Gukesh ended drawn after Ding went for a trying line with the white pieces only to see Gukesh defending the position accurately. Meanwhile, the two frontrunners in the Grand Chess Tour standings, Fabiano Caruana and Alireza Firouzja, played a tense, 85-move game. Firouzja ended up prevailing with the black pieces. | Photo: Crystal Fuller

Niemann achieves crushing victory over Vitiugov

His 8-4 victory in the rapid was particularly important, as it forced Vitiugov to take too many risks in Sunday's blitz session - a strategy that badly backfired, as Niemann got a 9-3 win in the final segment of the match. | Photo: Frans Peeters
