Steve Abrahams is originally from Raleigh, North Carolina but played and coached chess all across the United States. Steve has attained the titles of National Expert and FIDE Trainer during his career playing and coaching chess. Steve has been a professional chess coach for over 7 years and has worked with over 10,000 students in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Virginia, DC, and Florida including local, state and national champions. Steve was the 2006 New Hampshire High School Champion and 2016 Southern Open Champion u2400. Steve had written articles for Chess Life Magazine, Chess Life Online, Chess.com and Chesskid.com during his career. In 2017, Steve Co-authored the book "Become a Chess Champion". Steve lives happily in West Palm Beach, Florida with his two dogs Jethro & Izzy.
5/21/2018 – More than twenty Grandmasters including the World Championship Challenger Fabiano Caruana (pictured playing tandem blitz) came together in New York on Sunday for the 2nd annual event, a day of quad tournaments, GM blitz, simuls, and other special events. The proceeds from the event will go to Mount Sinai Hospital Ovarian Cancer Translational Research Laboratory. Last year's donation to another cancer charity exceeded $20,000! 5/17/2018 – Just a short time after the end of the US Championship, Sam Shankland continues his winning ways in the Capablanca Memorial event in Havana. His score now after the seventh round is an impressive 5½/7 now a full point ahead of Alexy Dreev the nearest competition. 5/10/2018 – TePe Sigeman & Co took place in Malmo, Sweden from May 4th to 8th, with Grandmasters Vidit Gujrathi, Alexander Morozevich, Nils Grandelius, Benjamin Gledura, Aryan Tari and IM Linus Johansson. 5/4/2018 – The 2018 Women's World Chess Championship has begun in Shanghai, China. In game one we saw a Queens Gambit Accepted that simplified to a drawn endgame, ending in 63 moves. In game two the opening was a seldom seen variation of the English Opening.
