Galina Popova was born in Khanty-Mansiysk. She graduated from the State University of Ugra in Language, Culture and History of the Ugra nation, specialising in journalism. Galina has won a number of awards for her photography, including the competitions “Ugra in camera”, “Best monument of History and Culture of Ugra” etc. Her photos have been published in the biggest Russian newspapers.
She worked on FIDE events in Khanty-Mansiysk: World Cup (2009), World Chess Olympiad (2010), and now lives in Saint-Petersburg, where for the past two years he has been a photo correspondent for the newspapers Nevskoe Vremya and Strela. Galina was responsible for the photo reports for the Moscow Chess Federation, and was the official photographer of the Moscow Open chess festival (2013, 2014).
2/12/2014 – In previous years, the Moscow Open was almost a prelude to the Aeroflot Open, but with the latter's demise, the Muscovite festival is now the center of attention with an all-star cast. This year drew more than 1700 players from around the world to participate in the myriad chess competitions from opens of all kinds to even chess compositions.
