The Lidums Australian Young Masters has a long history and the current organisers have been growing the event since it moved to Adelaide in 2011. Sponsor of the tournament is the Lidums Chess Foundation. The Lidums family has a long and proud history of supporting chess in South Australia over many decades, and the Lidums Chess Foundation was established by Aivars Lidums in 1988 following the success of the Adsteam-Lidums International chess tournament.

GM Vasily Papin from Russia won the Lidums Australian Young Masters with 7/9, not losing a single game. Second place went to GM Andrey Kvon from Uzbekistan – he finished with 6/9 and also remained undefeated. Australian IM Bobby Cheng finished third – he had the same number of points as IM Junta Ikeda but the better tiebreak.
Top seed GM Frode Urkedal from Norway was off form and finished second to last.

In the IM tournament 7/9 was also enough to claim first place – it went to GM Benjamin Arvola Notkevich from Norway. English FM Brandon Clarke, who currently resides in Sydney, shared second and third place with Chinese IM Bao Qilin with 6/9 but had the better tiebreak and won silver.
