In the men's section the tiebreaks were wrapped up quickly, with Vladimir Malakhov winning the second tiebreak game with white. He took silver ahead of Germany's Alexander Graf (previously known as Alexander Nenachev).

The winner of silver in the men's tiebreak: GM Vladimir Malakhov, 22, Russia
In the women's section there were a number of tiebreak games. The main interest was of course for the overall title and gold, between GM Pia Cramling, 40, from Sweden and IM Viktorija Cmilyte, 19, from Lithuania. After a draw in her black game Cramling went on to win the second game in a powerful kingside attack.
In the tie-breaks for the bronze medal Marie Sebag defeated Monika Socko and
then succumbed to Tatiana Kosintseva, who took the medal. In the tiebreaks for
the World Championship qualifications the results were Natalija Pogonina-Regina
Pokorna 2.5:1.5, Natalija Pogonina-Inna Gaponenko 2:0, Joanna Dworakowska-Maria
Velcheva 3:1, Sopio Tkeshelashvili-Alina Motoc 1.5:0.5, Svetlana Petrenko-Olga

This game ended in a draw, the second was won by Pia Cramling to take gold
After these tiebreaks we received the following message from four-time world champion Susan Polgar: "Please convey my congratulations to Zurab and Pia for wining the European Championship! It is wonderful to see Pia back on top!"
