The Endgame Magic Christmas Calendar - Door 2

by Arne Kaehler
12/2/2021 – The second day of our magical endgame calendar. Yesterday, you had to solve the famous endgame move by Shirov vs. Topalov. And of course, most of you knew the correct answer, and also mentioned the game. More of this, please! But we also had quite some participants answer with A. Be4, which won't do the trick. But no worries, you have 23 more tries. Today, we look at a famous check-mate in 18 moves. Luckily, you only need to know the first move to start this combo.

Chess Endgames 1 - Basic knowledge for beginners

Endgame theory constitutes the foundation of chess. You realize this in striking clarity once you obtain a won endgame but in the end have to be content with a draw in the end because of a lack of necessary know-how. Such accidents can only be prevented by building up a solid endgame technique. This is Karsten Müller‘s fi rst DVD and the grandmaster from Hamburg and endgame expert, here lays the foundation for acquiring such a technique. The fi rst part of his training series can be started without any endgame knowledge, only a knowledge of the rules of chess is assumed.

We also highly recommend to always check Karsten Mueller's Endgame Training, in our ChessBase video section:
