Game of the Week #619

After winning the Sigeman & Co tournament in Sweden, Abdusattorov's performance at the Superbet Rapid in Poland was not too impressive, but he played a fantastic game against Giri in the first round.

One of the modern strategies for White in 1.e4 e5 openings is to go for a King's Indian structure and to start a pawn storm on the kingside. In his game against Giri, Abdusattorov showed why this is an attractive strategy.

Warm-up question: What would you play here with White?

The flexible Open Spanish

In this opening Black opts for active piece play and is not afraid to fight for the initiative from an early stage. One of the many good features of this opening is that Black is often the side which controls the pace of the game.
